Hello, first of all. Let me introduce myself first. I am Abhra, one
of those born and brought up on this small township at the suburbs of
Kolkata and can’t deny the attachment with the place. I always wanted to do
something in my own ways, to pay homage to the town I was born.
Recently, my uncle, Arup Kumar Pal, was looking for some photos of
renowned personalities of Shyamnagar and couldn’t find any of Ashoklal
Mukherjee or Mahabir Prasad. So he was alarmed that how soon we are
forgetting people. It was his vision, that I’ve borrowed and decided to
put up a new website with the information about the place -
predominantly its history and people, the legendary personalities whose
presence glorified the name of this town. At the advent of technology,
we are doing very little to use the tools to preserve what we can before
we lost it for ever.
We are planning to post some pictures from common archives and doing
every bit of effort to preserve what we have. The dogmas of the quiet
past may be inadequate to the stormy present and though this place may
be insignificantly small in the geographic as well as the economic map
of West Bengal, but still in time to come, new generations need to know
the history and be inspired from.
a good and timely effort indeed. it is useful specially because we have become computer savvy willingly or unwillingly. and our next generation dreams in computer!
উত্তরমুছুনIn this rat race era (started much earlier) we dont have enough time to search for our history manually. A website like this will certainly help interested people like us to make an effort to satisfy our thirst for the quest.
Besides, it would be easier to add facets and flavour to the history and people of our beloved city.
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, that is the idea.
