Ashoklal Banerjee, who among people of Shyamnagar was more popularly known as Tine'da (তিনেদা), was a part of the golden era of Bengal’s football in 70s, played throughout for East Bengal and was recently awarded the prestigious 'East Bengal Ratna' award, for being part of the legacy that this club won the league for 6 years in a row (1971-1976). People who knew him said that even after a full duration match, he never perspired and when asked he laughed it away saying this was no hard work at all. Fans attributed the name ‘Headmaster’, for never missing any of those head shots. He was born and lived in Shyamnagar. Though he
is not among us today, we remember him fondly.
